- Birth Doula
I am a certified birth doula through Warm Welcome Birth and have taken workshops with Spinning Babies and Ann Gilligan, RN, creator of Gilligan's Guide. I can provide support to promote optimal fetal positioning both in pregnancy and in labor.
I am changing careers to become a nurse midwife, and am currently in my last semester of nursing school. As a certified birth doula, I have worked with several clients over the last two years. I bring decades of experience in the social service, education, and social justice fields, and am passionate about birther-centered care, and reproductive and birthing justice and equity. I am open-minded and am a sensitive listener and communicator. I also have two young children of my own.
I am fully vaccinated for COVID-19 plus a booster.
I aim to be a conscientious support person for birthing people of all backgrounds in a way that feels trusting and respectful. This includes birthers of size, Black and Brown individuals/families, LGBTQIA individuals/families, and birthing people/families with disabilities.
I know that each birthing person (and partner/family) has individual needs that are particular to them, and I strive to build a trusting relationship so I can understand those needs and know how to best meet them. I prioritize listening to and trusting the client.
I look forward to connecting with you!
"[We] are just beyond words at how deeply grateful we are for you and your strength, support and encouragement during my birth. As [my partner] put it, "Ali was epic, just completely epic". I can't even think about all your support without crying. There is so much with the birthing experience to still process through for me yet I can say I felt supported by everyone, but especially you. It felt like amidst all the chaotic emotions and things going on during labor I had one person that shared a secret language with me even though I wasn't able to verbalize back most of the time. With the breathing, the affirmations and encouragement and hip squeezes and the hydration, Whoa...it all felt like such an internal process that was happening and you were tapping into that. Really you are such a champion!
I am also very grateful for the notes you wrote and was surprised to see some of the play by play. I can't say I was aware of all of that!
I will cherish these pictures and videos for a lifetime and it is amazing and really wild to see a different perspective of what was going on. I am so thankful to have pictures of my girl as she is welcomed to the world." - Stephanie
Ali is an amazing doula. She made a long and difficult birth manageable with her constant care and dependability. She was supportive, checking in frequently with both of us individually, making us feel at ease with her experience and optimism. She was hands-on, tirelessly providing physical relief with positioning and hip squeezes for hours. She was attentive, asking key questions of us and the birthing staff to help give us direction when our sleep-deprived brains were struggling. She was thoughtful, documenting the process with notes and pictures, preserving lots of memories we may have forgotten otherwise. We truly cannot imagine how we could have done this birth without her. - Simone and Josiah
“During my third trimester of pregnancy with my first child, I chose Ali to join our birth team as our doula. Ali provided such important support and I can’t imagine the birth of my son without her. She possesses a unique, calming presence while simultaneously being able to educate my husband and I on important resources that helped support us through my pregnancy and labor. She was an amazing listener and always went above and beyond to ease all of our anxieties by providing us with all the information, research and options to help make decisions about our birth plan. I ended up having quite a prolonged labor that resulted in a C-section. The labor did not play out as I had envisioned, but with Ali by our side, we felt completely supported. She took extensive notes during the process and took the time to distill and communicate my options to me. She acted as an important point of communication between myself and the hospital team, asking all the right questions and supporting my wishes at every turn. She would suggest new positions and coping strategies when I needed them, while also providing vital emotional support for my husband as things got more intense. She was extremely well prepared, well researched, and calm under pressure and I truly trusted her throughout my birth journey. I can’t sing her praises highly enough!” - Jessie
I offer a sliding-scale rate between $775-$1200, based on the client's financial situation.
